Pajama Sam's SockWorks |
---|
Developer: Humongous Entertainment This game has unused areas. |
In his first spinoff, Pajama Sam's SockWorks, Pajama Sam dreams up what every kid wants to do – sort socks. Because that's fun, right?
No?
Well, too bad, because that's the premise of this game that's very little more than a cut-and-pasted version of the Lost Luggage game from Let's Explore the Airport with Buzzy...though given how addictive that game was, most people really didn't mind.
This game, like pretty much all the other Humongous games, has subtitles that are inaccessible unless you put
in hegames.ini or scummvm.ini, or if you enable them with ScummVM's UI.
Should the game fail to load a level, you will be redirected to this level called 'Bad Level'. It will then warn you that your game might be dirty or scratched. This screen can be easily accessed by typing room 11 in ScummVM's debugger.
This game does not include an in-house level editor (it would be pointless anyway as the built-in editor has every option there already), but it does allow you to view all of the levels in the game. To access this screen, type room 9 in ScummVM's debugger. One might think this would be redundant because there's an all levels cheat, but this game does not actually include only 100 levels; likely because the game was already half done when it was started, the developers decided to kick it up a notch by including 250 levels total with 100 randomly-selected ones every time. You can cycle through all the levels, though the level names don't erase so they are not visible and just pile up on each other.
It seems like this was somewhat like the in-house editor, as it does allow you to clear and name the levels, but they cannot be edited nor saved. There is also another set of arrows on the right but it is unknown what they do. The 'STOP' button returns you to the menu.
Inputting CHEATER-X as your name when you sign in grants the ability to go to any of the 250 levels in the game.
Due to a bug in the level randomization, one of the 250 levels will never be selected to appear in a normal file (and instead, another level has two chances of appearing). The only way to access this level is to use the 'CHEATER-X' name for the file and playing level 69.

The Pajama Sam series is a collection of point and click children's adventure and puzzle games originally created by Humongous Entertainment. After the release of the first two adventure games, the series was proving a success when the products sold one million copies and won 40 awards of excellence.[1]
All games consist of four parts: an introductory phase in which Sam begins in one room of his house, looking for his cape (or equipment that makes him courageous enough to face Darkness in the first game) and entering an imaginary world, the actual journey he undertakes in that world, and a concluding cinematic that ends the story. While Sam is in the imaginary world, he can move from one screen to another and interact with the environment with point-and-click controls. Each area features clickpoints that play animations irrelevant to the plot or feature crossovercameos of the three other Junior Adventure series, as well as important items and non-playable characters that can be collected or interacted with. Some items or areas are inaccessible due to an obstacle that is usually overcome by finding and using another item. The obstacles Sam faces and the methods by which he is to progress to the main goal are determined at random at the beginning of a playthrough, and playthroughs in progress can be saved and continued at a later time. In addition to the main storyline, each individual game features hidden collectible items scattered in the world that Sam does not have to reach, with a special reward available to those who can find them all.
In the first game, the player had no control over what scenarios would be encountered in one playthrough. In the sequel, the player can choose from several combinations of scenarios to play with, and in the last two games, the player is given complete control on what kind of scenarios are encountered for each step towards resolving the main conflict.
The third title was ported to the original PlayStation. More than a decade since the series' inception, the first game in the series was also ported to the Wii, which suffered from limited availability due to a legal conflict concerning its development. In the 2010s, the first three games of the series were ported to iOS and Android as paid games.
