MacOS succeeded the classic Mac OS, a Macintosh operating system with nine releases from 1984 to 1999. During this time, Apple cofounder Steve Jobs had left Apple and started another company, NeXT, developing the NeXTSTEP platform that would later be acquired by Apple to form the basis of macOS.
MapServer is an Open Source platform for publishing spatial data andinteractive mapping applications to the web. Originally developed in themid-1990’s at the University of Minnesota, MapServer is released under anMIT-style license, and runs on all major platforms(Windows, Linux, Mac OS X).MapServer is not a full-featured GIS system, nor does it aspire tobe.
